  • Spot clean only with a barely damp cloth and mild, pH-neutral soap. Blot — do not rub or scrub.
  • Vacuum periodically on low suction — avoid beater brush mode which can damage the braided coils.
  • If spills occur, blot immediately with a dry cloth. Do not allow liquid to soak into the fibre.
  • Rotate occasionally to equalise wear, especially in high-traffic placements.
  • Use furniture protectors under heavy legs to prevent the coils from compressing permanently.
  • If a strand pulls free, trim with scissors — do not pull the cord as this loosens the braid.
  • Periodic professional dry cleaning by a natural fibre specialist is recommended for deep cleaning.
  • Avoid steam cleaning, soaking, or prolonged moisture exposure as jute is sensitive to water damage.
  • Free insured delivery across India on all orders. International shipping available on request.
  • In-stock standard sizes: dispatched within 2–3 business days. Delivery in 5–10 business days depending on location.
  • Made-to-order sizes (200×300 cm, custom): 4–6 week production lead time.
  • Custom sizes or custom colourways: 8–12 week lead time from confirmed order.
  • All rugs are professionally packaged in protective wrapping for transit. Export cartons available for international freight.
  • Rug sizes and pattern placement may vary slightly — natural fibre rugs are hand-made and no two pieces are identical.
  • Actual colours may differ slightly due to screen calibration and lighting conditions. Physical samples available on request.

Sustainable Handcrafted Natural Fibre

Naira takes its outline first. Rather than finishing at a straight cut edge, the braided coil is guided into a soft, repeating scallop around the full perimeter of the rug — a wave that turns a rectangular format into something considerably less rigid, closer to the hand-finished feel of a piece made one loop at a time.

"The scallop isn't added afterward — it's where the coil is allowed to curve outward before turning back in, so the edge and the field are built from the same continuous cord."

Within that softened boundary, the field itself is worked in the mitred, concentric manner typical of a braided jute rug — coils of natural fibre wound and stitched in bands that run parallel to the edge, gathering toward the centre. Two pairs of black linear stripes are set into this field along the length of the rug, a graphic, architectural counterpoint to the organic scallop and the warmth of the undyed jute.

Natural jute shifts in tone across the day — golden in direct light, deeper amber in shade — so the pale ground of Naira is never flat or uniform. Set against the black stripes and the wave of the scalloped edge, that natural variation gives the rug real depth underfoot, suited equally to considered residential interiors and hospitality spaces looking for a natural-fibre floor piece with a more contemporary silhouette.

Crafted by Artisan Hands

Made by Hand,
From the Ground Up

Every Planet Arts rug tells a story of heritage and craftsmanship. The Naira Scalloped Natural Jute Rug is handmade, with the artisan coiling and stitching lengths of jute cord by hand, working outward in mitred bands before shaping the coil into the rug's signature scalloped edge. Because this is entirely a hand process rather than a machine one, the artisan continuously adjusts the tension and curve of each loop to keep the scallops even around the full perimeter.

Jute is sourced from the Bengal region where climate and soil conditions produce fibre of long staple length and natural lustre. Consistency in the spun cord determines the quality of the finished rug — cord that varies in thickness produces coils that sit unevenly and wear inconsistently over time.

How It Works

Bringing Home the Right Rug

Choose your design, select your size, and let us handle the rest — from production to delivery. Quality, care, and convenience at every step.

🧹

Professional Cleaning

We recommend periodic professional dry cleaning by a natural fibre specialist to maintain the rug's structure and appearance long term.

🖐

Entirely Handmade

Each Naira rug is made entirely by hand. No two pieces are identical — minor variations in the scalloped edge and coil texture are a feature of hand construction.

📐

Hundreds of Configurations

Standard sizes in the natural & black colourway, or custom size and colourway for trade and project orders. Scales from a 120×180 cm accent to a 200×300 cm centrepiece.

Natural fibre

Finest Natural Fibre

Long-staple jute from the Bengal plains

The best jute fibre comes from a specific region of climate and soil. We source from spinning units that maintain consistent cord gauge — the foundation of a braid that wears evenly and lasts.

Light on rug

Texture & Character

A surface that changes with the light

The natural jute surface catches raking light and shifts from golden-blonde in morning sun to deep amber under warm interior lighting — a natural counterpoint to the fixed black of the linear stripes and the softened line of the scalloped edge. No synthetic material behaves this way.

Hand weaving

Made by Hand

Each piece is made by a skilled artisan

The Naira rug is coiled and stitched entirely by hand. It takes years of practice to keep a scalloped edge even and a stripe pattern straight across a full-size rug. This is not mass production.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

  • Standard sizes run from 120×180 cm up to 200×300 cm. Custom dimensions are available for trade and project orders. Contact us with your specification and we'll confirm availability and lead time.

  • The rug is made from natural jute fibre throughout. The black linear stripes are achieved using a dyed jute cord worked into the braid during construction. No synthetic fibres are used in the standard colourway. Material composition for custom colourways is available on request.

  • Spot clean with a barely damp cloth and mild, pH-neutral soap. Blot — do not rub. Allow to dry fully before replacing furniture. Avoid soaking or steam cleaning. For significant soiling, professional dry cleaning by a natural fibre specialist is recommended.

  • Yes. This rug is available with an anti-slip latex backing applied at production if specified at the time of order. Backing is not standard and must be requested. A quality rug pad is also recommended on hard floors regardless of backing choice.

  • Standard colourways in standard sizes carry a 4–6 week production lead time from confirmed order. Custom sizes or colourways require 8–12 weeks. Samples are typically dispatched within 5–7 working days. For time-sensitive projects, contact our trade team to discuss what is feasible.

  • Yes. Custom colourways are available for qualifying trade and hospitality accounts, typically with a minimum of 10 pieces per colourway. We can work from Pantone or NCS references, or from a physical sample. Custom colourway development takes approximately 3–4 weeks before production begins.

  • Private label packaging and labelling is available for qualifying accounts — including custom brand tags, care labels, and branded packaging for hotel amenity and retail wholesale programmes. Contact our trade team with your account details.

  • This rug is designed for interior use. Natural jute is sensitive to sustained moisture and weather exposure. For covered terraces with minimal humidity, seasonal placement is possible — but permanent outdoor use will significantly shorten the rug's lifespan.
