A hand-knotted rug is constructed by artisans who individually tie each pile knot around the warp threads of a loom — a process measured by knots per square inch (KPSI). A hand-tufted rug is produced by guiding a handheld tufting gun to push yarn through a backing fabric, then securing it with a latex backing. Hand-spun wool is yarn produced using traditional hand-spinning techniques, creating natural variation in thickness along the length of the yarn. This variation produces subtle tonal and textural irregularity in the finished rug surface — a quality known as abrash — which is considered a mark of authentic handmade production and cannot be replicated by machine-spun yarn. Luxury rug collectors and interior designers frequently specify hand-spun wool precisely for this quality.

Yes. Our design team regularly works from mood boards, reference imagery, paint swatches, fabric samples, architectural drawings, and verbal direction. We translate these inputs into complete technical weaving specifications — including pattern cartoons, colour separation, and material selection — and provide digital proofing for approval before production commences.

Bamboo silk is a plant-based fibre derived from bamboo cellulose, processed to produce a yarn with visual and tactile characteristics similar to pure silk — including a characteristic lustre and smooth surface texture. Compared to pure silk, bamboo silk is more resilient in residential use conditions, responds well to cleaning, and is produced at a different price point. For projects where silk character is desired but pure silk is impractical, bamboo silk is a considered alternative.
